Oldfield’s PSHE Partners
Tender
We have working alongside Tender at Oldfield School since 2017. They are an organisation who lead projects on healthy relationships, engaging our students in conversations through workshops and smaller focus groups to develop their knowledge and understanding of healthy and unhealthy relationships. Tender make sure our students know where to find support and develop equality and respect through their workshops.
Students from Year 9 in Oldfield regularly take part in 2 day workshops. The 30 students who take part then work together on an arts–based project so that they can deliver the key messages to their peers across the year group. In the past few years we have they had made films, posters and acted our scenes to highlight the warning signs of an unhealthy relationship and how our young people can respond and get help when they need to. These projects are a central part of our Relationships, Sex and Health Education programme at Oldfield School.
RE:SET
We are very proud to be a RE:SET Healthy Relationships Champion School.
In September 2020, Relationships and Sex Education became compulsory for all schools in the UK. At Oldfield our spiral curriculum already included many of the required elements but the opportunity to work with Tender on the RESET project for a year allowed us to reflect on all our practices and our students needs. We audited our entire RSHE curriculum, we held focus groups, wellbeing evenings for our parents and carers and reviewed our resources, lesson plans and staff understanding.
We will hold the award for three years and will continue to work alongside our students to make sure they have relationship and health education that equips them for our world today.
TOPAZ Child Exploitation Team – Avon and Somerset Police
Androulla Nicolaou from the TOPAZ team comes to Oldfield School to lead assemblies for our students on subjects such as County Lines and Social Media. Her wealth of knowledge and experience in safeguarding is vast and students learn about how to keep themselves and their peers safe during her talks. Oldfield staff have training on specific aspects of safeguarding our young people and we also have after school workshops to inform and give advice to parents and careers on topical concerns such as harassment, social media and keeping their young people safe.
Smashed Alcohol Education
Smashed Project is an education programme designed to tackle underage drinking by engaging young people around the world through interactive learning.
Last year our Year 9 and Year 10 students attended assemblies led by a Smashed Ambassador. Students watched a film based on the lives of 3 characters and their relationships with alcohol. The assembly was interactive and students had to make decisions about the characters to move on with the story. Students continued their alcohol work in their PSHE lessons.
