PotMed (Potential Medics) a 6-month online programme designed to support students interested in applying to medicine.

What is PotMed?

PotMed (Potential Medics) is an award-winning widening participation initiative run by Imperial College Muslim Medics, supporting students through the medical school application process via conferences, intensives, mentoring opportunities and webinars. Our aim is to equip potential medical students with everything they need to succeed and our events are open to all students, regardless of background or faith.

What is the PotMed Pathway Webinar Series?

The PotMed Pathway Webinar Series is a structured, 6-month online programme designed to guide students step-by-step through the medical school journey – from understanding what studying medicine is really like, to building a strong application and preparing for future pathways.

This program goes beyond just delivering lecture style webinars. Sessions are delivered in an interactive, classroom-style environment, where students will actively engage in tasks and discussions, and will have opportunities to ask questions.

Over the course the program, students will:

  • Gain first-hand insight into life as a medical student through talks and live Q&A sessions with current medical students, covering placements, workload, exams, and the realities of studying medicine
  • Take part in interactive, discussion-based webinars, including myth-busting sessions and breakout room sessions that encourage reflection on motivations for medicine and the application journey
  • Receive step-by-step guidance on the medical school application process, helping students understand what to do at each stage and how to apply strategically

·       Explore alternative career pathways within and beyond medicine, including MedTech, varied training pathways, and opportunities in research. Students will also learn about intercalated degrees (iBScs), gap years, and reapplication routes, building an awareness beyond the traditional pathway and highlighting the multiple pathways available through medicine

  • Learn how to find and reflect meaningfully on work experience, linking experiences to the skills and values assessed in medicine
  • Participate in an interactive personal statement masterclass, with opportunities to draft, discuss, and refine sections of their personal statement in small-group settings
  • Prepare for medical admissions tests through our highly anticipated Annual UCAT Intensive, featuring focused teaching, exam strategies, and advice from successful applicants

This programme is especially suited to Year 11 and Year 12 students preparing for future applications. However, Year 13 students, gap-year applicants, and graduate entrants are also very welcome to attend.
