School Council

The School Council has been a beneficial opportunity for us all. Each year we welcome new representatives to help give a student’s opinion on how school life could be conducted. As well as organising charity events, we have had a chance to make a difference to the school and its surrounding community. We hope to continue with this worthwhile cause next year.

Our School Council Year

Throughout the year, School Council have contributed to various causes and activities, whilst having fun doing so. We have had a pro-active role with some of the various changes happening within the school, such as choosing colours for the new classrooms being built, touring the new sports hall, and giving information to parents at parents evening - this included giving tours and welcoming parents as they arrived.

Sport Relief was a highlight for School Council this year; we raised a considerable amount, over £100, with our bake-off competition. Wristbands were also sold for the next day, where a race was held. In addition, mufti days have been a great success where we raised money for worth-while charities, such as RSPCA, Teenage Cancer, Make A Wish and Water Aid. These charities were not only supported through mufti days, but also through activities such as sponsored walks and bake sales.  This July we are also supporting the local charity, ‘Stand Against Violence’, which we heard about through our PSHE lessons.

As well as this, we have given feedback on academic monitoring and are in the process of seeing what improvements could be made, so students will benefit more from it. The classroom charter has also been reviewed, and we are finding ways to make it more suitable for the classroom environment. School Council were also given an opportunity to visit a local hospice – this gave us a deeper insight as to the diverse community we live in. We have been grateful for this opportunity within School Council, and welcome new students to join us in September. We hope to make next year even more productive.
