‘Outstanding’ Judgement from Ofsted
We are pleased to report to the school community that our recent Ofsted inspection graded the school, once again, OUTSTANDING.
I’m sure that most people who know the school well were expecting that this would be the judgement as the school is always looking at ways to improve still further.
We received a “no notice” inspection which meant we simply had a phone call the afternoon before the two day inspection. Four inspectors were in school for two days in the second week of term. They had meetings with staff, governors and students, they visited lessons and assemblies, talked informally to students around the school, they looked at lots of school documentation such as the School Development Plan, school policies, safeguarding records etc and analysed the responses from parents.
We were delighted that the inspectors judged us to be OUTSTANDING in every category (Achievement, Teaching, Behaviour and Leadership and Management). The inspection team was very warm in its praise for our students, saying “Students’ behaviour in and outside of lessons is impeccable”.
We hope that everyone in the school community will share in our pride at this fantastic judgement.

Ofsted Inspection 11-13 December 2013
We are delighted to report that we have received feedback from the inspection team which visited in December.
During the monitoring inspection they observed lessons and made a series of short visits to other lessons to look at students’ behaviour and learning.
The inspectors reported the following:
“Students are very polite and courteous around the school site.”
“Students show respect to their teachers and want to listen to and learn from them.”
“Through curriculum opportunities and assemblies, students have a good awareness of different types of bullying and how to keep themselves safe”.
“Attendance rates are above the national picture”.
“The school’s safeguarding arrangements meet requirements.”
As this was a section 8 safeguarding inspection there is no formal designation, this means no grades are awarded. Ofsted publish their findings on their website. The school is always keen to make any improvements to develop the school further and will follow up issues suggested by the inspection team.
The inspection was carried out by one of Her Majesty’s Inspectors of schools. The inspection evaluated the overall effectiveness of the school and investigated the following issues: achievement and progress at Key Stage 4; teaching and learning, including assessment, target setting and tracking; and the quality of provision in the sixth form.
